Eyeglasses Lens Materials
- Plastic lenses: :Light weight and low cost
- Polycarbonate lenses: “bulletproof glass”, more impact-resistant than CR-39 plastic, preferred material for children’s eyewear, safety glasses and sports eyewear.
- High-index plastic lenses: Thinner and lighter than CR-39 plastic lenses, the higher the index, the thinner and lighter the lenses are.
Lens Treatment Options
- Anti-scratch coating: For increased lens durability.
- Anti-reflective coating: Eliminates reflections in lenses that reduce contrast and clarity, especially at night.
- UV-blocking treatment: Protects eyes from UV light
- Photochromic treatment: Enables eyeglass lenses to darken automatically in response to the sun’s UV and high-energy visible (HEV) light rays, and then quickly return to clear (or nearly clear) when indoors.
